St. Helen School 40th Anniversary News

Dear St. Helen’s School Community,

Congratulations for the first forty years of Catholic education provided to the     families of Howard Beach by St. Helen School

For the many students who learned to see Christ in one another.

For the many mothers and fathers who supported our school.

For the teachers and catechists who taught us about God.

For the administrators who led the way into the 21st century as Catholic role models.

It is important for us all to realize that a school is not all brick and mortar, but the living, breathing elements of the community for which it serves.

I am most grateful for all who have been students, parents and administrators, past and present.

Let us rejoice in the Lord,

                                                            Mrs. Anne Badalamenti

                                                            Principal 1993-2007

In the year 326AD, on a search for the True Cross of Jesus, St. Helen led a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.  She was 80 years old!  In the Holy Land, she discovered three crosses.  The pilgrims took the three crosses to a woman with an incurable disease.  St. Helen had the woman touch each cross.  One the crosses immediately cured her.  This cross was pronounced the The True Cross of Christ.

Thus in art, she is usually depicted holding a wooden cross.
